Wayne Mardle tells us the story of Kyle Anderson’s career in darts and praises the sacrifices he made after the Australian sadly passed away this week.
Wayne Mardle paid tribute to “The Original” Kyle Anderson, who died at the age of 33. Australia’s first indigenous professional darts player was a true pioneer for the sport.
Anderson has played in seven world championships after making his debut in the 2012-13 event and held a PDC Tour card from 2014 through this year.
His biggest spell came when he won a Players Championship and then the Auckland Masters on the World Series of Darts circuit in 2017.
The tributes came from Anderson’s peers following the sad news of his passing, from three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen, to his compatriot Simon Whitlock, and a touching social media post from his good friend, Kim Huybrechts.

“You can only tell from the outburst on social media that he liked him. He was a nice genuine human being, but you know what? He was respected,” Mardle said. Sky Sports.
“He packed up a job and literally moved (to) the other side of the world to pursue his dream. What a brave individual and losing him at 33, it doesn’t feel right because of all the sacrifices he’s made.
“The darting world is really in mourning. It’s not until people are gone – I’m speaking from my point of view having lost my mother last year – you don’t know when you’re going to have that last conversation. You don’t know when you will see them for the last time.
“It’s such a sad story for anyone who has known Kyle because he made his mark.”

Anderson had returned to Australia at the start of the coronavirus pandemic last year and gave up his Tour card in January when he decided to stay home for family reasons.
He spent four weeks in self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 shortly after returning to Australia from the UK in late March 2020.
Kyle Anderson moved to the other side of the planet, raised a family and helped provide for them by playing darts at the highest level. That’s a lot to achieve in 33 years: imagine what he would have done if he had had a few more.

Anderson also posted a photo, ostensibly of himself in the hospital, on his Instagram on August 10 along with the caption: “I’m getting too regular now.”
“At the height of his game, he was one of the best. I remember his nine darts against Ian White because I was supposed to comment on games that day, but I was sitting at home with the flu,” recalled Mardle.
“You knew he had levels and that he had a game he could win. He won the Pro Tour and the Auckland Masters and if there is another Auckland Masters, it has to be renamed the Kyle Anderson Trophy. That was his crowning glory., That. it was his moment. “
