Gareth Southgate is a 'great coach' with 'great tactics' and all his doubters don't know what they're talking about, insists Phil Foden.
The England manager is under huge scrutiny following his side's dour goalless draw against Scotland last Friday, while some fans went to the extreme by calling for Southgate to go immediately after the Wembley stalemate.
The result means England are yet to seal their place in the last-16 of Euro 2020 and go into their final group match against the Czech Republic needing a win to ensure they finish top of Group D.
Foden admits he'd like to play alongside the Aston Villa captain but fully trusts his manager to pick an XI that will get the job done.
"He's a great coach and working with him every day I get to see what he's like" Foden told talkSPORT. "He always has the players' backs and I believe that his tactics are great.
"All these negative people don't know what they're talking about because Gareth's a great coach.
"In training all the technical players like me and Jack so if I get the opportunity to play with him that's up to Gareth really.
"Everyone trains very well every day and whatever team he selects we're going to trust and back.
"Everyone plays differently, that's the depth we have in the squad. Everyone has different qualities.
"Jadon [Sancho], he loves one vs one situations, I'm more of a player who comes inside and tries to link the play and Gareth tries to pick the best XI for the team. Whatever we need in the next game he's going to pick the right players."
Foden also responded to claims made by England legend Wayne Rooney that his style developed at club Manchester City means he struggles to play his best football for his country.
England's record goalscorer wrote in The Times : "I love Foden as a footballer but you have to realise that, for four years and more, he has been moulded into a City player.
"It is hard for him to turn up and just change how he has been playing since the age of 16. City play in the final third. They keep possession there. Foden is not a dribbler but a player who plays nice little passes and moves into good positions."
The 21-year-old is always looking to improve but responded to Rooney by saying England are similar to City in some aspects.
"He has his own comments and beliefs and I respect that but coming to England we don't play a massively different way, it's a similar formation," Foden added.
"I think I'm doing alright, obviously I can still do better but I believe I can play for England like I play at my club so why not?"
